We knew it was going to be ugly! (The overhead position)

In this “Kitchen Conversation,” we’ll, again, tackle the topic of “when it’s not pretty…why do we do it”.

In the image above, Carolyn demonstrates one of the best overhead positions we see in our group!

With seniors, we recently described the process of going from point A to point G as non-linear. In other words, if you wait to master A, before you go to B, before you’re allowed to go to C, and then D, and then E…F…and finally G, AND you’re a senior,  AND trying to be functionally fit (which includes strength, mobility, stability…blah, blah, blah)…you may NEVER get to C, let alone G before you’re six feet under.

WE BELIEVE, and employ, strategies that often vary from the A to G “in that order” protocol. Sometimes to get to G, we have to use this pattern:

A-C-B-C-B-D-C-E-B-B-B-…..G!

Yes, would it be ideal to go in order of progressions when learning a new skill? Yes, of course! It would make writing text books a lot easier, too.  But life really doesn’t work that way, and when we consider both the task at hand, and the variables that make us successful, like retention and motivation, our strategy wins time and again. AND, our injury rate is lower. Go figure! Listen in!
